Psychometric Testing

What is Psychometric testing in recruitment?

Psychometric testing is a description for testing, used to measure a candidate's mental capabilities, rational levels, and aptitude. An employer can use a number of tests to understand a candidate's job suitability including verbal reasoning, logical reasoning, and numerical reasoning. Each test gives a different perspective of how a person establish a specific skill or capability.

Psychometric tests are different from traditional testing that measures education, knowledge, or skill.

However, individuals who appear to be good for the job on paper are not always capable when the workplace becomes real. It is understood that other variables, like personality traits, approach to work, and communication skills are just as important in understanding how well-suited someone is to a job role.

Psychometric testing provides a rounded view of an individual, revealing their logical processes, aptitude for problem-solving, and ability to interpret and analyze a range of data. Just as importantly, they also provide an insight into their personality traits, integrity, and how they might fit into an existing team.

How are Psychometric tests used in the recruitment process?

Psychometric tests complement other recruitment methods. Once the beginning application process has been completed, psychometric tests can be used to streamline a significant number of potential individuals before the interview stages begin.

Interviews are important but present challenges to the employer. It costs time and money to take interviewers away from their usual workplace to hold interviews or to pay an external recruitment company to handle the process. So, it is in everyone’s interest to ensure that the candidates have been thoroughly assessed before reaching this stage of the process and have absolute potential to move ahead.

Equipped with psychometric test reports, interviewers can willfully observe precise behaviors and traits among candidates and customize assessment activities to explore them in more depth. When determining who to hire, recruiters can rely on psychometric test reports to determine between candidates that seem to be balanced in education, experience, and skills.

What is Psychometric testing for mental Health?

There are many aspects of psychological illness. Stress, anxiety, and depression all have physical manifestations.  Psychometric instruments identify thinking styles, emotional processes, and behavior patterns that contribute to mental illness.

Some tests are diagnostic (they point to a condition that was previously unknown e.g. personality style) while other tests are prognostic (they gauge the severity of depression or anxiety and watch it change over time). These tests provide vital and important information.
